Halle Berry’s ex-husband has been slammed online after giving a somewhat shocking response as to why they divorced.

The Hollywood actress tied the knot with baseball player David Justice in 1993 after only just a few months of dating.

Their love story started when Berry saw Justice playing baseball in 1992 and passed on her phone number through a reporter after learning he was a fan.

However, it all came crashing down in 1997 when the couple went their separate ways and Berry filed a temporary restraining order against her ex.

The Oscar winner later went on to reveal that the break up had such a dire impact on her mental health that she almost took her own life.

Now, the 59-year-old MLB All-Star has spoken about their messy split from his point of view, which has divided fans.

Appearing on Matt Barnes’ All the Smoke podcast on Thursday (August 7), Justice spilt the beans on what he feels went wrong in their relationship almost three decades ago.

While he said the former couple were still in the ‘honeymoon state’ for five months after their wedding, it was when Justice started to look to the future that things appeared to change.

“We never had any major issues like that, it’s just that I, because I was young, and had only honestly been in one real relationship before her – my knowledge and my understanding and my wisdom around relationships just wasn’t vast,” Justice continued.

“So, I’m looking at my mom – and I’m a Midwest guy. So, in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, you know?

“And then I’m thinking, ok, if we have kids, you know, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build up a family with?”

The Ohio native and now father-of-three explained further: “And at that time as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly, and then we start having issues.”

The sports star then suggested Berry was the one who asked him to marry her after just five months, stating: “I said OK, because I couldn’t say no. Who’s going to say no at that time?”

“I don’t know if my heart was really into it, but I didn’t want to make her feel bad and say no, you know, or [if] I was just in the moment,” he added.

Dozens of disgruntled fans have now flocked to criticise Justice for his comments, with many agreeing it ‘sounds like he was looking for a housekeeper, not a partner.’

“You married Halle Berry in her prime as a movie star and was expecting her to cook and clean? Bye Felicia,” said one viewer.

“He wants @halleberry as a housekeeper,” a second added. “Congratulations on escaping queen.”

Another chimed: “Come on bruh, shaming your ex decades later sounds very bitter to me. Let it go, dude.”

After their split, Justice went on to marry Rebecca Villalobos Justice in 2001, with whom he shares three children, while Berry married singer-songwriter Eric Benét in 2001 before divorcing in 2005, followed by Olivier Martinez in 2013 to 2016, with whom she shares two children.

The mom also welcomed another girl in a previous relationship with Gabriel Aubry in 2008, and now appears happily loved up with record producer Van Hunt.

Hunt has apparently already popped the question but is awaiting Berry’s response.
