Is it just me, or did Mercury retrograde decide to take “Jesus, Take the Wheel” way too literally this week? Somewhere, the stars were definitely not aligned, and once again, the universe has proven it’s got a wicked sense of irony—because here I am, writing about the untimely passing of Brett James, the man who practically penned the soundtrack for celestial interventions. When a creative titan like James, whose lyrics made us all believe the cosmos could intervene and save us at our lowest, suddenly leaves us due to a plane crash?—well, that’s the sort of twist even astrology apps don’t warn you about . My emotions are ricocheting between shock, sadness, and this ridiculous urge to plug his name into my horoscope and demand an explanation. Maybe Venus is in G sharp minor grief, who knows? James’ hits—including Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and Kenny Chesney’s “When the Sun Goes Down”—did more than just rule country radio; they gave us anthems for those days when the universe feels out of our hands . As social media fills up with tributes and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame mourns aloud, you can bet the entire music world is watching the sky for answers—and, clearly, we’re not alone in wishing there was someone up there steering for all of us today . Feeling as lost as a Scorpio after daylight savings? Let’s process this together—one song, one memory, one star-crossed moment at a time . LEARN MORE
