LEARN MORE.

Gemma Collins has revealed where she’s at with her weight loss journey after experiencing an unexpected side effect from using Mounjaro.

The reality TV star, 44, who started using the NHS-approved weight loss drug back in November 2024, recently experienced an ‘agonising’ complication. In an interview with the Daily Mail, she said she suffered a gallbladder attack in August and wasn’t sure if it was ‘linked’ to her Mounjaro jabs.

A gallbladder attack happens when a gallstone – a small, hard lump – blocks a tube that carries bile from the gallbladder. This causes sudden, strong pain in the upper right side of your tummy that may spread to your shoulder or back.

According to the NHS, the pain can last from minutes to hours and often starts after eating fatty foods.

If the blockage doesn’t clear, the gallbladder can become inflamed due to a condition known as acute cholecystitis, which needs hospital treatment.

“We were going away for Rami’s [Hawash, her partner] 50th and I was in excruciating pain,” she said.

“I fell to the floor, whilst he was going round the track. And I was like, whoa, I’m in pain. And then I was thinking I’m gonna have to go and sit in A&E.

“I called my doctor and he said, ‘let me come to your house scan you’. When he scanned me, it was gallstones.”

A spokesperson for Eli Lilly and Company, Mounjaro’s manufacturer, told LADbible that ‘the Mounjaro (tirzepatide) Patient Information Leaflet warns that gallstones is a common side effect when used for weight management, and an uncommon side effect when used for type 2 diabetes’.

“We encourage patients to consult their doctor or other healthcare professional regarding any side effects they may be experiencing and to ensure that they are getting genuine Lilly medicine,” they added.

Collins has since provided a fresh update on her health, revealing that she’s ‘just lost another stone and four pounds’.

She told OK! magazine: “I feel really good. I’ve been upping my exercise a lot and it’s just a continual journey, isn’t it? I don’t focus on it too much though.

“I love myself as I am – you’ve got to be kind to yourself. It’s just about constantly remembering to make those right choices and be mindful.”

Within the first three months, Collins went from a size 26 to a size 20, and now dropped 18 more pounds.

“I don’t put pressure on myself. It didn’t take you five minutes to gain it and it’s not going to take you five minutes to lose it,” she added.
