Oh, Liam Payne, you glorious creature! Just when we thought we’d heard it all, he pops up on a podcast, serving up a steaming hot plate of absolute delusion. Picture this: he claims that One Direction was crafted around him in 2010 – the supposed original mastermind behind the boy band bonanza! Did we all forget that Niall Horan was actually the first to step into that fateful X Factor spotlight? You can’t make this stuff up! And if that brag alone didn’t leave you laughing, hold onto your hats – our dear Liam also declared he’s outperformed every other former 1D heartthrob as a solo artist. Seriously? Is he working with a different set of charts? Let’s unpack this delightful mess of misplaced pride as we dive into the reality of Liam’s claims and the actual numbers behind the music. Buckle up – it’s going to be a wild ride! LEARN MORE.

Liam ended up being mercilessly roasted after he made a series of wild comments on the show. This included claiming that One Direction was created around him back in 2010, and that he was always intended to be the frontman.

It was later revealed that Niall Horan was actually the first of the five members to be put in the band, which was created on the British series The X Factor.

Liam also insisted that he’d enjoyed the most success as a solo artist than any other member of the group. Discussing his debut single, “Strip That Down,” Liam bragged at the time: “I think it outsold everybody within the band, and I was the last to go [solo]. And I never expected that.”

As it happens, when Liam’s podcast appearance was recorded, Harry Styles’s Grammy-winning song “Watermelon Sugar” was the most streamed solo single from a member of One Direction, followed by two more from him, and three of Zayn Malik’s tracks.

“Strip That Down” actually placed seventh at the time, and Liam’s 2019 solo album, LP1, also didn’t enjoy the same amount of success as his former bandmates’ debuts,  peaking at No. 111 on the Billboard 200.
