“Oppenheimer” was the first time the filmmaker worked with Universal, a relationship forged after Nolan publicly split with longtime home Warner Bros. in late 2020.
While “Oppenheimer” was picked up by Universal in an open auction setting, this new project ended up going straight to the studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And while Damon is a part of the Nolan ensemble of players, having worked with the filmmaker for “Oppenheimer” and 2014’s “Interstellar,” this will be Holland’s first time with the lauded director.
Nolan is set to produce alongside his producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy banner.

Named Best Director at the 96th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night, Nolan took home the prestigious honor for his outstanding work on “Oppenheimer”. In a tremendously competitive category, Nolan won over contenders including Justine Triet (“Anatomy of a Fall”), Martin Scorsese (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Yorgos Lanthimos “(Poor Things”), and Jonathan Glazer (“The Zone of Interest”). The award was presented by the legendary Steven Spielberg.

“What I wanted to do was take the audience into the mind and the experience of a person who sat at the absolute center of the largest shift in history,” Nolan said, per NBC. “Like it or not, J. Robert Oppenheimer is the most important person who ever lived. He made the world we live in, for better or for worse. And his story must be seen to be believed.”
“Movies are just a little bit over a hundred years old. Imagine being there a hundred years into painting or theater,” he continued. “We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here, but to know that you think I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me. Thank you very much.”
As rumors circulate that Holland may be teaming up with Nolan, fans are still wondering if they will see him take on the role as Peter Parker once again.
Although Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have yet to officially announce “Spider-Man 4,” Holland recently revealed during an October 17 podcast that he and co-star Zendaya have already read a pitch and draft for his next adventure as Peter Parker.
“There’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting,” he said during that podcast, per People. “And I’m really, really excited about it.”
Tom Holland recently captivated audiences in Apple TV’s 2023 miniseries “The Crowded Room.”
