The Oscar winner attended a press conference to promote her new film  “Bugonia,” where she revealed her beliefs in extraterrestrial life.

When asked if she believes in an ultimate intelligence looking down on humanity, she said, “I don’t know about looking down on us, but one of my favorite people who has ever lived is Carl Sagan.”

“I watched his show Cosmos and I fell madly in love with his philosophy and science and how brilliant he seems to be,” she continued, per the Daily Mail. “I think he very deeply believed that the idea that we’re alone in this vast expansive universe is a pretty narcissistic thing to think.”

The actress then gave a more serious response: “I think there’s a tricky aspect to that answer that’s probably longer than anything that anyone would want to listen to right now. But I think everyone sort of deals with that now. We all can relate to that feeling of someone thinking they know you, feeling like you don’t have much control of the avatar outside of me.”

She then divulged her strategy: “I call it the avatar outside of me. There’s me and then there’s, like, me here [at the festival] if that makes any sense. I separate the two in my mind a little bit, which I maybe need to do less.”

“As a coping mechanism, there’s the person who comes here, and then there’s a person I am with all my friends and family — and they’re the same person. It’s just different things to keep myself sane, I guess,” Stone concluded, per The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Bugonia’ Is Neither Fictional Nor Dystopian

The upcoming film sees Stone team up with Lanthimos again, following their stellar collaboration on “Poor Things.”

Weighing in on their working relationship, she noted that she loved being in his family of performers.

Although the film is a remake of the 2003 Korean film “Save The Green Planet!” Lanthimos believes it’s neither fictional nor dystopian.

The director said, “A lot of it is very reflective of the real world. So I wouldn’t necessarily call it a dystopian film, which, in my mind, is presenting an image of the future and what happened to civilization.”

He added, “Humanity is facing a reckoning very soon, and people need to choose the right path, otherwise, I don’t know how much time we have with everything that’s happening in the world, with technology, AI, wars, climate change, and the denial of all these things.”

Stone turned heads as she attended the “Bugonia” photocall in a sleek black halterneck dress featuring a lace trim.

It was a far cry from her appearance in the film, where she was required to shave her head; however, that decision seemed to come easily to her, as she called it “the easiest thing.”

“You just take the razor and shave it. It’s so much easier than any other hairstyle,” Stone added.

Despite it being an easy task to undergo, shaving her head left Stone feeling very emotional.

The actress revealed it made her remember how her mom, Krista Stone, lost her hair as she battled a debilitating breast cancer.

“She actually did something brave. I’m just shaving my head,” she told Vogue magazine. “My mom was like, ‘I’m so jealous. I want to shave my head again!'”
