Ever wonder if working with an ex could be as tricky as Mercury in retrograde? Well, Emma Stone just spilled the tea on what it was like filming The Amazing Spider-Man alongside her then-boyfriend Andrew Garfield—talk about balancing love and superhero duties! Before Tom Holland swung into our hearts as Peter Parker, Garfield was the web-slinging OG, with Stone playing his on-screen love, Gwen Stacy. Their real-life romance sparked behind the scenes but, unlike Holland and Zendaya’s ongoing fairy tale, Emma and Andrew’s off-screen relationship took a different path. Despite the heartbreak, Stone radiates warmth recalling that chapter, insisting it was the people, more than the film, who left a lasting impression. Curiously fitting, considering Saturn’s recent alignment urging us to cherish past connections without holding on too tight. Intrigued by how these stars navigated love, loss, and legacies under the cosmic spotlight? LEARN MORE

Emma Stone has revealed what it was like to work with her now ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield on The Amazing Spider-Man films.

Before Tom Holland became known as the face of Peter Parker, there was Garfield, who donned the famous Spidey-Suit in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014 follow-up The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Starring alongside him was Stone, who played Peter’s love interest Gwen Stacy.

Romance would also blossom behind-the-scenes between Stone and Garfield, with the actors beginning a relationship in 2011. Similar to how Holland found love with Zendaya, who played his on-screen girlfriend in the Marvel adaptations.

But unlike Holland and Zendaya, who have since gotten engaged, Stone and Garfield’s romance would not stand the test of time as the couple would ultimately go their separate ways in 2015.

However, it would appear the pair have remained on good terms in the decade since going their separate ways.

Stone seemingly confirmed this in a recent interview with Vogue, when reflecting on her time filming Spider-Man.

“I mean, I really loved doing Spider-Man,” the 36-year-old said. “I loved everyone I worked with. I met Andrew there.

“It was really a special time in my life.”

Stone went on to explain that it was often the co-stars she worked with who gave her the ‘fondest memories’, adding: “The recurring theme is the people, more than kind of like the film itself, is what sticks with me for so long.

“And so I have only like the fondest memories of this whole experience.”

Since the heartbreaking death of Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Stone went on to star in La La Land, The Favourite and Cruella, going on to win Oscars for La La Land and Poor Things.

She married husband, comedian and ex-SNL producer Dave McCary, in 2020 and welcomed their child, a daughter, a year later.

Meanwhile, Garfield has since starred alongside Florence Pugh in We Live in Time and appeared in projects such as Hacksaw Ridge and TV series Under the Banner of Heaven.

Garfield would reprise his role as Peter Parker in Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, which established the multiverse concept and allowed Holland, Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s respective Spider-Man characters to join forces.

His inclusion in the film included a touching parallel to Gwen Stacy’s death, in which his Peter saves MJ (Zendaya) from falling to her death, something which he wasn’t able to do for Gwen.

Outside of acting, he is currently reported to be dating A Complete Unknown star Monica Barbaro.
