“Egregore” can be defined as a non-physical entity created by and sustained through the collective mental and psychic energy of a group. The concept of an “egregore” is neutral, like fire or electricity. Its moral character is determined by what is being fed and why.
Whether it’s a marriage, a business, a hate group, or a nation, the process is the same. There is a shared belief. The belief is invested in, routinely, which feeds the egregore.
In a marriage, this might be a set “date night”, or just the continued day to day, loyalty and devotion that’s demonstrated. In a hate group, it’s the belief in a shared grievance and the superiority/inferiority of a group. See social media!
The more you feed the egregore, the stronger it gets. Starve the egregore and it weakens. Note that for some groups, feeding the egregore is compulsory. A well fed egregore gains power and influence.

You know how I hate gossip. I abstain because it feeds out toxic culture. When you express gratitude, it does the exact opposite. I mention this to illustrate, this is an every day thing. I 86’ed politics here, to keep this site from being taken over by a destructive egregore.
