Drew Barrymore candidly opened up about her sex life, revealing she can go ‘years’ without doing the deed.
Her frank confession came after Andrew Garfield spoke about ‘abstaining’ from sex for six months on the run up to his role as a Jesuit priest in the 2016 movie Silence. Set in the 17th century, the actor made sure he got into character by changing a number of lifestyle habits, creating new rituals and going ‘celibate’ for half a year.
But Barrymore wasn’t too impressed and said she felt as if six months ‘wasn’t that long’.
Speaking about Garfield’s revelations during an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022, she asked co-host Ross Matthews: “What’s wrong with me that six months doesn’t seem like a very long time? I was like, ‘Yeah so?’”

Matthews joked he ‘abstained’ from sex for his ‘entire twenties’ but was trumped by Barrymore and jibed: “We buried the lede there, that’s the headline. Drew can go six months, no big deal.”
The talkshow host then added: “Oh, years.”
The mum-of-two’s confession is a far cry from her role as Dylan Sanders in Charlie’s Angels, a charming and flirtatious detective.
Fans were quick to chime in with their thoughts, as one person quipped on X: “Absolutely nothing is wrong with you @DrewBarrymore. I’ve never really had a high libido and sex isn’t something I really ‘crave.’ Also, I haven’t had a partner in several years, so there’s that. Can we stop sex shaming people? And this goes for all ends of the spectrum.”
However, another claimed they would ‘shrivel up and die’ if they went even ‘two weeks’ without sex.
But a third added: “Btw Drew… I gotcha beat !!!!!! I have gone longer than 6 months before. I haven’t had sex in 7 years so don’t feel bad.”

In a post on her blog, Barrymore opened up about the comments she made on her show, writing: “Since entering life as a single mum, I have not been able to have an intimate relationship.
“I’m not a person who needs sex and has to go out there and engage with people on that level. A relationship with a man has not been top of mind for me for a very long time.”
She went on to clarify: “I have just finally come to the epiphany that love and sex are simply not the same thing. For the record, I do not hate sex!”
It comes as Barrymore’s company, Flower Films, will produce a new Charlie’s Angels movie, 25 years after she starred in the remake alongside Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu in 2000.
The film was a major box office success and helped solidify Barrymore’s standing in her production company as one of the film’s producers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Barrymore will help bring together a new version of Charlie’s Angels, written by Pete Chiarelli, the scribe behind the Ryan Reynolds-Sandra Bullock romantic comedy The Proposal as well as the adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians.
