Chapman’s stepson, Gregory Zecca, has been placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold after accidentally fatally shooting his 13-year-old son, Anthony, in what family representatives are calling a “freak accident.”

The tragic incident involving Dog the Bounty Hunter’s stepson and grandson took place Saturday evening at the family’s apartment in Naples, Florida.

According to TMZ, Zecca was placed under a psychiatric hold out of concern that he may attempt to take his own life as he grieves the unimaginable loss.

A spokesperson for the family clarified that the hold was not because Gregory is suspected of any crime, but rather due to the overwhelming grief he’s experiencing. He has reportedly been heavily sedated and has not yet been able to speak with family members or investigators.

According to a police report from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office obtained by Daily Mail, Anthony suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the neck, just above the sternum. The bullet did not exit the body, and the teenager had already lost a significant amount of blood by the time first responders arrived.

Despite efforts to save him, including CPR, chest compressions, and the application of a chest seal, Anthony was pronounced dead at 8:21 p.m. ET, just 13 minutes after deputies were dispatched to the scene.

Authorities reported that the firearm involved in the shooting was found on the kitchen island when they arrived. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office described the event as an “isolated incident” and confirmed that a full investigation is underway, including witness statements, forensic testing, subpoenas, and search warrants.

Gregory Zecca is the stepson of “Dog the Bounty Hunter” star Duane Chapman. He is the biological son of Chapman’s wife, Francie Frane, whom the reality star married in 2021 following the death of his previous wife, Beth Chapman.

Francie and Duane bonded through shared grief after both lost their spouses to cancer and went on to build a life together, one that included Francie’s two sons from a previous marriage, including Gregory.

A Colorado native, Zecca described himself on social media as a “Father, Bounty Hunter, Podcaster, Small Business Owner.” Before disabling his Instagram account, he often posted about his family, his work, and his passion for firearms. He was also involved in the custom auto industry through his company, Rebel Customs.

Zecca eventually joined his stepfather’s bounty hunting team, making appearances in the Chapman family’s world of high-stakes captures and fugitive recovery.

In 2021, he launched a podcast called “Beyond the Bounty with Greg Zecca,” which gave listeners a behind-the-scenes look at life on the job with Dog. “We are touching on hot topics, having difficult conversations, and bringing you closer to these larger-than-life humans,” the podcast description read.

Zecca shared his son, Anthony, with ex-partner Alexandria Lane. On social media, he previously posted images of the two at shooting ranges, often highlighting their shared enthusiasm for firearms, a detail now drawing attention in the wake of the heartbreaking accident that took Anthony’s life.

Duane “Dog” Chapman has lived much of his life in the public eye, and his expansive family reflects a complex personal history shaped by multiple marriages and relationships.

The “Dog the Bounty Hunter” star has been married five times and has 13 biological children from six different women.

Dog welcomed his first child, Christopher Michael Hecht, in 1972 with then-girlfriend Debbie White. Later that year, he married his first wife, La Fonda Sue Honeycutt. The couple, who were married from 1972 to 1977, had two sons together: Duane Lee II and Leland Blane.

His second marriage was to Anne M. Tengell (1979–1982), with whom he had three sons: Zebediah (who died shortly after birth), Wesley, and James Robert. Chapman then married Lyssa Rae Brittain in 1982. Their nearly decade-long marriage produced three more children: Barbara Katy, Tucker Dee, and Lyssa Rae, the latter of whom has gone on to appear in the family’s reality TV shows.

Dog’s most well-known relationship was with the late Beth Chapman. The couple married in 2006 and had two children together: Bonnie Joanne and Garry.

Dog also adopted Beth’s daughter, Cecily Barmore, from a previous relationship, whom he has continued to raise as his own.
