Dave Bautista Drops Cosmic Truth Bomb: “Save Your Whining, Hollywood’s Not Your Therapy Session”

Added on September 23, 2025 inMovie News Cards

Ever wonder if the cosmos has a say in who we choose to work with? Well, as Saturn makes its slow, no-nonsense trek through Aquarius—calling for authenticity and cutting through nonsense—it seems Dave Bautista couldn’t be more aligned with the stars. The former wrestler turned actor is crystal clear: he’s done with collaborating with anyone who’s just… well, an asshole. In a recent chat with J.J. Perry for Collider, Bautista didn’t mince words about the kind of energy he’s after on set—pure respect and passion, because life’s just too short for toxic vibes. Between films like Afterburn and The Killer’s Game, Bautista’s all-in on loving the craft and the crew, embracing filmmaking as a joy, not a battleground. So, could this cosmic clarity be why he’s so candid about wanting roles that challenge him and earn him a spot in those elusive awards conversations? One thing’s for sure—he’s gearing up for his best act yet, and we’re here for the journey. LEARN MORE

Dave Bautista isn’t interested in working with people who — to put it lightly — are assholes.

While speaking with Collider alongside J.J. Perry, the Afterburn star and director raved about their working relationship. The two shared that they’ve bonded while working on the 2025 film and The Killer’s Game together, which prompted the outlet’s reporter to note that “if you’re working with someone who’s an asshole, it makes the [film] entire shoot, from what I understand, horrific.”

“Absolutely awful,” Bautista replied in agreement. “I’m just at the age and at the point of my life where life’s just too goddamn short. I want to work with people I just love and respect, because I love this business. I love filmmaking, and if people don’t want to be there, I don’t want to be there with them. You know? I’m happy to be there.”

The wrestler turned actor continued, “It’s a love thing for me, and I’m passionate about it. I want to be there, and I want to make the most of it, so I don’t want to hear people bitching, complaining, moaning and groaning about doing something that we’re all fortunate enough to be doing and making.”

Bautista has long been candid about his passion for acting. Since starring in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, he’s gone on to appear in a slew of films, including Dune and The Naked Gun, and has plenty of projects in the works, including the Highlander remake

When reflecting on his sprawling career as an actor, Bautista told The Hollywood Reporter that “it’s an understatement when I say how much I love [acting,]” while adding that he wants to continue to grow and enter the awards conversation.

“To hear that people think highly of you or they respect you, it feels great, but the thing that bothers me is that I don’t feel like people have seen the best of me,” he added. “I don’t feel like I’ve seen the best of me. I feel like I can be better. I feel like I need that project. I need that director to challenge me and bring that out of me. And I will openly say that I want to be in award conversations. I want to be that caliber of actor, but I don’t know how I can be more proactive in trying to get those roles. I have these conversations with my agents every day. I really want to be thought of in that light. … I still have a lot to offer, and I hope that one day I can really blow people away with a performance.”
