As I am sure you know by now, Brooklyn’s dramatic six-post statement came after months of speculation that he was feuding with his famous parents, David and Victoria Beckham, and his younger siblings.
You can read an extensive, in-depth recap of the entire feud here, but it basically all boils down to Brooklyn’s relatives apparently disrespecting his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, “consistently,” and trying to ruin their relationship. He also claimed that his parents had “controlled” him for the majority of his life, adding that his family “values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.”
Brooklyn firmly stated that he has no intention of reconciling with his family, and his little brothers, 23-year-old Romeo Beckham and 20-year-old Cruz, also caught some strays, with Brooklyn writing: “My brothers were sent to attack me on social media, before they ultimately blocked me out of nowhere this last Summer.”
In the wake of Brooklyn’s statement, it has been business as usual for the Beckhams, with none of them publicly commenting on the post. David went ahead with his pre-scheduled appearance at the World Economic Forum the following day, Romeo walked in Paris Fashion Week this past weekend, and Cruz continued promoting his upcoming music and tour. Meanwhile, Victoria posted a photo from her Spice Girls reunion at Emma Bunton’s 50th birthday on Saturday.
But now, Cruz has said a little more.
As I am sure you have noticed, people are seriously divided over Brooklyn’s statement, with some siding with him and Nicola while others remain firmly Team Beckham. For those who are backing Brooklyn, though, the family have come under serious scrutiny — including his siblings. Over the last week, Cruz specifically has faced criticism of everything from his music career to his relationship with girlfriend Jackie Apostel, who is nine years his senior.
And now, Cruz has seemingly hit back at the backlash by posting a TikTok video of himself, Jackie, Romeo, and Romeo’s girlfriend, Kim Turnbull. For what it’s worth, Kim has also been at the center of this Beckham family feud, which we will get into later.
The foursome seemingly wanted to show both how unbothered and how united they are in the eight-second clip, which literally just shows them all riding in the back of the car and taking turns to lip-sync to a wordless sound effect.
But what was even more telling than the video was Cruz’s caption, which pointedly reads: “Imagine hating and we’re just here like.”
Needless to say, it didn’t take people long to assume that this is an indirect dig at both Brooklyn and Nicola and the Beckhams’ critics, with one comment reading: “Iconic response 😂” Somebody else wrote: “short but sweet and to the point,” while another added: “perfect comeback 👌”
It’s fair to say that we have pretty much all been expecting Cruz to be the first one to acknowledge the drama, as he has been the most vocal amid the feud up until this point. For example, back in April, Cruz was caught brazenly mocking Nicola on Instagram after she left a gushing comment on Romeo’s ex-girlfriend’s photo.
“so beautiful mia 🩷✨,” Nicola wrote at the time, and when Romeo posted a photo dump of his own a couple of days later, Cruz commented: “So beautiful Romeo ✨🩷,” with Romeo replying: “😂😂”
And in June, Cruz couldn’t resist taking a jab at Brooklyn when somebody seemingly mistook him for his older brother. As I’m sure you know, Brooklyn’s various short-lived careers over the years have made him the butt of the joke in pop culture, and when Cruz posted a video of himself singing to TikTok, another internet user wrote: “going to stick with this job or going to become a race car driver next or something,” to which Cruz quipped in response: “Wrong brother mate.”
He has also been the only Beckham family member to publicly speak out on the rumors surrounding them, which takes us back to Romeo’s girlfriend, Kim. When it was widely reported that Brooklyn was upset about her and Romeo’s relationship because Kim is his ex, Cruz explicitly stated: “Brooklyn and Kim never dated.” (Kim herself has also issued a statement vehemently denying any romantic involvement with Brooklyn.)
And when tabloids mistakenly reported that David and Victoria had unfollowed Brooklyn on Instagram last month, Cruz was quick to set the record straight. Posting a Daily Mail headline about the unfollowing to his Instagram story, Cruz wrote: “NOT TRUE My mum and dad would never unfollow their son.. Let’s get the facts right. They woke up blocked… as did I.”
As mentioned, none of the other Beckhams have publicly referenced Brooklyn’s statement, but Victoria did appear to subtly acknowledge the support that she has been receiving from fans in a candid Instagram exchange with David on Sunday. For reference, it happened after Brits rallied together to get Victoria’s 2001 solo single “Not Such an Innocent Girl” to number one in the UK, and you can read more about the whole thing here.
