Cannes Just Dropped a Dress Code and These 13 Celebs Clearly Didn’t Get the Memo—Meanwhile, 7 Stars Played It Safe (But Boring)

So Cannes 2025 decided to drop a bombshell dress code just a day before roll call—and wow, did it stir the pot! Picture this: a festival that famously flirts with the risqué suddenly clamps down hard on anything “too naked, too voluminous, or too long,” all in the name of “decency” (whatever that means these days). Meanwhile, the cosmos was jogging through Taurus, the sign known for stubbornness and a flair for the dramatic—and honestly, the stars couldn’t have scripted this better. Halle Berry played the good Taurus citizen, swapping out her grand gown with a heavy train, but a whole roster of celebs? They basically thumbed their noses at the new rules and strutted right past them like a Mercury retrograde ignoring red lights. Are these rules a sign of the times, or just an overzealous attempt at crowd control? Either way, the red carpet turned into a wild dance of rebellion versus restraint—and I’ve got a front-row seat. Ready to see who broke the “no-no” list and who slipped through the cracks in style? Let’s dive in. LEARN MORE.

Cannes 2025: Celebrity Looks That Violate Dress Code

As you might’ve heard, Cannes notably announced a pretty huge change to its dress code just a day before the festival began. “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted,” reads the event’s official charter. “The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”

The sudden change in dress code sparked a lot of buzz ahead of the event, especially when Halle Berry revealed that the attendees had hardly been given any notice about the new rules.

Explaining that she had to make a last-minute change to her outfit after learning that it violated the new rules, Halle said during the Cannes jury press conference, per Variety, “I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train.”

But while Halle sacrificed her original dress to follow the dress code, it looks like several other celebrities weren’t quite as fussed. Take a look at some of the other looks for yourself:
