Well, would you look at that—Katy Perry has once again danced her way into the cosmic spotlight, but this time not with her chart-topping hits, rather with a swirl of AI-generated fashion fantasy that left even her own mom tangled in the webs of digital deception last year. Given Mercury’s notorious reputation for mischief and miscommunication around this time, it’s almost poetic that trolls decided to crank up their creativity to eleven, crafting a completely fabricated Met Gala appearance complete with a fictional “Lustratex®” fabric so out-of-this-world, even Vogue had to be part of the ruse. And just when you think the universe might be giving Perry a cosmic break, she sets the record straight—still on tour, still real, and thankfully keeping mama wise to the bots this time around. So, how much can we trust our eyes when the stars and AI conspire to blur reality? Buckle up, because this glittery saga is shining bright on deception, technology, and just a pinch of stardust. LEARN MORE.

Last year, the singer revealed that her own mom was among the thousands fooled by a fake picture of her wearing a stunning gown embellished with flowers, butterflies, and an attention-grabbing moss trim at the Met.

This year, the trolls went one step further when they claimed that Katy not only attended the Met, but was wearing a brand new type of fabric for her look.

Sharing the AI-generated images, a self-proclaimed “parody account” on X wrote: “Katy Perry’s dress at the #MetGala2025 features never-before-seen, custom-made fabric by Mugler. ‘Lustratex®, a cutting-edge fusion of liquid vinyl and adaptive smart polymers, was innovated in secret textile labs across Paris & Seoul’, VOGUE reports.”

The tweet was seen over 400k times before Katy shut it down by writing on her Instagram page: “couldn’t make it to the MET, I’m on The Lifetimes Tour (see you in Houston tomorrow IRL‼️)”

Thankfully, Katy confirmed that her mom was not fooled the second time around, adding: “P.s. this year I was actually with my mom so she’s safe from the bots but I’m praying for the rest of y’all.”
