Legendary coach Bill Belichick is facing calls for him to retire after the Tar Heels’ devastating loss to Wake Forest.

The defeat comes shortly after the UNC coach shut down rumors that he was considering ditching the team for the New York Giants, after they fired their coach, Brian Daboll.

Now, with the Tar Heels’ recent loss, football analysts and fans have slammed Bill Belichick, requesting that he quit, with some calling out his behavior toward the Wake Forest coach.

On Saturday, Belichick’s Tar Heels faced a major 28-12 loss to Wake Forest, after failing to get a touchdown during the game, with the team’s only scores being the result of four field goals.

After the loss, Belichick admitted that the team had a terrible night on all fronts, including coaching.

“Just not good enough in any area,” he told reporters during a press conference, per the New York Post. “On offense, defense, special teams, coaching, playing, we just didn’t have a good night and certainly was not enough.”

Unfortunately, Belichick’s candid admission was not enough to quell the anger of fans who saw the latest defeat as a major blow to the UNC team.

One of such displeased voices was Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who demanded on X (formerly Twitter) that the coach retire.

He wrote, “Belichick needs to retire. This is disgusting. I’m not even sure he knows the score or where he is.”

Portnoy was not the only one to voice his anger at the Tar Heels’ 28-12 loss, as other top sports figures expressed concern for the team’s future under Belichick.

The famous coach also didn’t do himself any favors after the game, as he was called out for his seemingly cold behavior toward the Wake Forest coach, Jake Dickert, who removed his hat while extending a handshake to Belichick after his team’s win.

His reaction was caught on camera, with some netizens describing it as a bad look for Belichick.

A viral tweet from North Carolina Sports Talk host, Josh Graham, read, “This is an awful look for Bill Belichick. When you occupy the space Bill does, you should recognize what these games mean to opposing coaches. Jake Dickert even removed his hat as he approached to shake hands.”

Another person wrote, “Bill Belichick being a sore loser in another loss and showing no respect to Wake Forest’s coach. Disgraceful.”

However, some felt the legendary coach’s reaction to Dickert after the Tar Heels’ loss was appropriate, with an individual asking, “What do you want — he poses for a photo op with a coach who just kicked his team’s a-s? Nonsense.”

Prior to the Tar Heels’ loss, Belichick reassured fans that he had no intention to make an NFL return by going back to the New York Giants.

Rumors about him considering ditching UNC began circulating after the Giants fired their head coach, Brian Daboll.

However, Belichick swiftly shut down the speculations, stressing that he will not be pursuing any NFL head coaching gigs.

“I have great respect and genuinely care for the New York Giants organization and both the Mara and Tisch families,” Belichick said in a statement, per the New York Post. “The New York Giants played an important role in my life and in my coaching journey.”

He continued, “It was a privilege for me to work for the Mara family and be a member of Coach Parcells’ staff for over a decade. However, despite circulating rumors, I have not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies.”

Belichick has had a pretty rough past few months due to his widely publicized romance with 24-year-old former cheerleader, Jordon Hudson.

Their relationship has been further scrutinized due to the coach’s disastrous UNC debut and Hudson’s sideline appearances.

Now, one of Belichick’s former players, Asante Samuel, has called him out, slamming him as a “hypocrite” for the way he has been navigating his romance with Hudson, while noting that the coach has seemingly changed since his days with the Patriots.

In a chat with TMZ Sports, Samuel, “Ultimately, coach is being a hypocrite. He’s being a hypocrite, the way he’s carrying on. He told us to stay off the media and don’t have family distractions and things like that.”

“Coach has all this stuff going on? Coach, where did this come from? Why wasn’t we able to enjoy ourselves like this now that you want to enjoy yourself, know what I’m saying?” Asante asked.

Away from his controversial love life, Belichick has other issues he has yet to resolve, a major one being the uncertainty surrounding his Hulu docuseries about the UNC football program.

There have been rumors that the project has been shelved due to creative differences and other behind-the-scenes drama, but the veteran coach continues to reassure fans that “there will be something,” and even recently told reporters that the series is “still a work in progress.”

However, sources revealed that the chances of the project being made are slim, amid concerns from Belichick’s camp about the direction of the docuseries.

“Jordon, Bill, and UNC all agreed that Hulu’s vision of the project was not in alignment with Hulu’s,” an insider told People Magazine, adding that Belichick “was enthusiastic to give unprecedented access to the program; it’s too bad Hulu wanted to dive deep into his home life.”

A second source noted that the “project that was originally pitched was not the series that was coming together,” hence the delay.
