Viral: How Cynthia Erivo Protected Ariana Grande

A very frightening moment took place at the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good on Thursday morning.

Ariana, Cynthia, and Michelle Yeoh were walking the carpet when a fan broke through the crowd and rushed Ariana.

There are several angles of the clip circulating the internet. In this one by @PopBase you can see the man in the white shirt rushing toward her.

And once he reaches her, you can see him laughing while Ariana looks understandably frightened.

Until Cynthia rushes over to push him off of her.

Ariana clearly looks very shaken up by the whole encounter.

While Cynthia rightfully looks super upset that it happened to begin with.

Concerned for Ari, you can see Cynthia check in with her after it happened.

And Cynthia embraces her with a hug.

The attack is pretty upsetting to watch.

But, at the same time, it is a testament to the depth of the friendship Ari and Cynthia must share.

The attacker has been identified on social media and has “Troll Most Hated” as his bio:

The encounter is posted to the attacker’s Instagram, and people are not holding back on their thoughts.

People are also calling out Ariana’s security team for not stepping in sooner.

It’s a flex for Cynthia, but one she shouldn’t have to use.

Sadly, fans acting out of line, and security not stepping in soon enough, is, unfortunately, not new. In fact, just last month, Billie Eilish was suddenly pulled into the crowd by an aggressive fan in the front row during her show in Miami.

So, even though security should always be on top of their game, the moral of the story is: Fans do better because THIS is not okay:
