So here we are again, folks—Ray J, the rapper who’s had more health scares than Kanye’s had Twitter spats, showing up on stage looking like he just walked through a vampire movie set, with what appeared to be blood trickling from his eye. Now, if you’re wondering whether Mercury retrograde is just messing with his optics or if this is another brutal reminder that life’s as fragile as a soap bubble in a hailstorm, you’re not alone. This isn’t the first cosmic buzz about his health; he’s been candidly admitting he might be running on borrowed time—doctors whispering about pacemakers and blackened hearts while his Instagram live turned into a sort of “farewell tour” teaser. And as Saturn keeps flexing its stern muscles in his chart, it really makes you ponder—can a stubborn spirit outmaneuver the ticking clock? Ray J’s recent concert in Louisiana had fans holding their breath, but the man kept smiling, showing us that starry resilience isn’t about ignoring the fall, but how you dance when you do. Curious to dive deeper into the real details behind the headlines and the man himself? LEARN MORE.

The health of rapper Ray J, real name William Ray Norwood Jr, has come up again after he was filmed performing over the weekend with what looked like blood coming from one of his eyes.

It’s certainly not the first time his condition has been in the spotlight as he has spoken several times about his health and how he worries he doesn’t have long left to live.

Ray J had been rushed to hospital in Las Vegas last month after experiencing heart pain, with him receiving treatment for severe pneumonia and telling people he had ‘just almost died’ and that his ‘health is not OK’.

In an Instagram Live afterwards he then said ‘2027 is definitely a wrap for me’ and explained that doctors had told him he might only have months left to live.

A friend of his in the video said ‘f**k the doctor’ and claimed things would be alright, but Ray J has spoken about several aspects of his health which sound very worrying.

Why he says he has months to live

In that video Ray J claimed he ‘doesn’t have long left to live’, and he later said he’d talked to doctors about his heart saying: “This is black. This is, like, done.”

The rapper said he’d ‘f**ked up’ as he thought he ‘could handle all the drugs’ but was unable to.

He said: “I think I thought I had more weight. I thought I was big so I could handle all the alcohol, I could handle all the Adderall, I could handle all the drugs – but I couldn’t. It curved my time here.”

Ray J said he’s been told to prepare for the possibility of getting a pacemaker or a defibrillator, and claimed to TMZ he’d been prescribed with eight different kinds of medication.

A severe case of pneumonia

Having been treated for pneumonia earlier this year, Ray J had also been hospitalised in October 2021 while in Miami.

At the time his manager said it was ‘not the contagious kind’ and he’d need to stay in for a couple of days.

January 2026 saw him hospitalised again for it.

“I want to thank everybody for praying for me,” he said after leaving hospital last month.

The rapper admitted he ‘shouldn’t have went this hard’ and mentioned that doctors had warned him away from drinking and smoking.

‘My heart’s only beating like 25 percent’

Getting out of hospital afterwards, Ray J talked about the damage done to his heart which he’d said was ‘black’ from drug and drink abuse.

He’d said he was drinking ‘four or five bottles a day’ at the height of his consumption while taking 10 doses of Adderall.

“I’m like, ‘Ain’t nothing happening to me? F**k it. I’m indestructible,’ Joke’s on me. Take care of yourselves, y’all,” he said of the damage done.

Speaking about the condition his heart was in, he said he might be alright if he keeps to ‘the right path’ but talked about how it wasn’t fully working.

“My heart’s only beating 25 percent, but as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, everything will be all right,” he had said.

Performing with ‘blood’ from his eyes

At a recent (14 February) concert at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium in Louisiana the crowd were worried for Ray J after they saw what appeared to be blood trickling from one of his eyes.

The musician had been wearing sunglasses while on stage but something resembling a trail of crimson trickling down his cheek was visible.

Footage posted to social media showed it while Ray J had been crouching down to hand roses to audience members, and despite the appearance of blood he was smiling and interacting with the crowd.

If it was a serious health concern then he didn’t seem much concerned by it and the actual cause for the red trickle is unknown.

In another clip from the show he unzipped his outfit to reveal what appeared to be a medical dressing on his chest.

Backstage footage had the rapper talking to a friend who told him he’d been ‘sick’ lately.

He replied: “Damn, I’m getting better! You’re gonna laugh at me being sick…It’s not fair. We’re okay, that’s what I’m saying, like, don’t do that.”

“Hey y’all, we perfectly fine, look at me. I’m fine.”

LADbible has contacted Ray J’s representatives for comment.
