On February 4, Spears posted an Instagram photo of a baby clutching an adult’s finger. She paired the photo with a lengthy caption, saying, “As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone…”
The singer continued to write that it’s wrong for people to say they are protecting someone by isolating them, adding, “We can forgive as people but u don’t ever forget.” Spears posted the message amid her ongoing rift with her father, Jamie, her mother, Lynne, and her sister Jamie Lynn.
“I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I’m scared of them,” Spears continued. She also wrote how God works in mysterious ways, and posed a question to her followers, asking, “What do you think he is saying today?”

“To be totally honest with you, no matter what he says, they will never take responsibility for what they did,” she wrote.
Spears then shifted to a lighter tone, saying that she made a cheesecake and ate it with her neighbor, adding a postscript explaining that she hasn’t danced in a month due to breaking her toe twice.

Spears’ feud with her family began in 2021, at least publicly, when she gave court testimony accusing her father of abusive behavior during her conservatorship, such as urging her to work against her will, not allowing her to remove her IUD to have another child, and forcing her to attend rehab and take lithium, per a transcript from NPR.
She has also accused her mother and sister of remaining passive and not helping her get out of her conservatorship despite knowing how controlled she felt. The divide between the sisters widened in 2022 when Jamie Lynn’s memoir “Things I Should Have Said: Family, Fame, and Figuring It Out” was released.

Spears called out her sister, accusing her of capitalizing on her struggles. A year later, she clapped back in her own memoir, “The Woman In Me,” calling Jamie Lynne a “total b-tch.”

Spears was placed in a conservatorship under her father Jamie in February 2008 when she was 26 years old. As previously reported by TheBlast, she felt like a “child-robot” in those years.
“The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child. I became more of an entity than a person onstage. I had always felt music in my bones and my blood; they stole that from me,” she wrote in her memoir.
In November 2021, a Los Angeles judge completely terminated the singer’s conservatorship, allowing the pop superstar to have full access and control over her estate, per The New York Times.
Despite her tense relationship with some family members, the 44-year-old singer is intent on mending her relationship with her two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Spears’ ex-husband and the father of her children, Kevin Federline, filed for full custody of the kids in 2008, and the request was granted. He cited that he wanted them to have a more stable environment.
In 2024, Spears had a happy reunion with her younger son, Jayden. The mother and son reportedly spent some quality time together in Los Angeles. Spears commemorated the moment with a photo of a grown-up Jayden she posted on Instagram.

In November 2025, Federline shared that their sons are working to “mend a bond” with their mother. “They absolutely love their mom, right? I mean, they always, always have, always will,” adding that he always wanted his sons to have a relationship with Spears.
In January, Spears posted an old photo of herself in front of a piano, telling her followers that she was sending that piano to her son. In the caption, the singer shared that she will “never” perform in the U.S. again due to “extremely sensitive reasons,” but she didn’t count out performing in other places.
In fact, she hopes to share the stage with her son “in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon,” she wrote. She didn’t specify which son she was referring to, but in April 2025, she proudly showed off a video of Jayden playing the piano.
