Damon and Affleck sat down for a joint interview on Sirius XM’s “The Howard Stern Show” to promote their new movie “The Rip.” During their conversation with the host, Stern asked about their friendship, which has lasted through several hardships on Affleck’s side.
From his controversial divorces to his battle with alcohol addiction, Affleck frequently made headlines for the wrong reasons. When Stern asked Damon if he had been there during his pal’s hardships and was in a position to say, “I’m here to help you,” the actor replied:

According to the “Pearl Harbor” star, his best pal wasn’t the best at cleaning up around the house. However, Damon refuted the claim, arguing that he was no longer the messy boy from their days as roommates.
Despite his claim, Damon changed his tune when Affleck noted they should ask his wife, Luciana Barroso. As for the “Oppenheimer” actor, his least favorite trait about Affleck is his lack of punctuality. He alleged the interview was the first time his pal had arrived early in 45 years.

Damon and Affleck’s friendship began in their childhood when they were 10 and 8, respectively. PEOPLE reported that they lived two blocks away from each other in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and hit it off thanks to their shared love for baseball and acting.
In 1986, they began auditioning for movies together and became extras in the Kevin Costner hit movie “Field of Dreams” in 1989; however, they weren’t credited. Things changed in 1992, when they co-starred for the first time in “School Ties,” followed by their big break in 1997’s “Good Will Hunting.”
The movie skyrocketed Damon and Affleck to fame, earning them more recognition to become the acting icons they are today. Throughout the journey, they kept their Hollywood bromance alive by supporting each other’s projects. Affleck once credited Damon as instrumental to his mental health.

Given their years-long friendship, it is not surprising that Damon’s wife has a close relationship with Affleck. During their recent appearance on Stern’s show, Damon confessed that Barroso actually thought Affleck was cuter than him.
“So she admitted to me… I’m like, ‘You got the wrong one?’ She told me that 23 years ago,” Damon shared. Nonetheless, Barroso has enjoyed a blissful marriage with the actor since 2005, welcoming three children.
As for Barroso’s relationship with Affleck, The Blast reported in April 2025 that a source claimed she was trying to set the entertainer up on dates after his second divorce. They claimed Damon’s wife was “keen” on setting Affleck up with her friends.
