Bryan Kohberger has allegedly warned that he may harm himself if authorities refuse to relocate him from his current housing unit.

The Idaho killer is being held in J Block at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, where he says he faces constant harassment from other inmates.

The situation has raised suspicions over whether the Bryan Kohberger threat is genuine or a strategic attempt to get what he wants.

Following Kohberger’s transfer to begin his four consecutive life sentences at IMSI, the convicted murderer has issued one complaint after another, with his latest being a threat to harm himself.

The convict is said to have repeatedly told staff at the Idaho prison facility that he would carry out this threat if he is not moved out of the J Block unit he is currently residing in.

The unit houses other inmates convicted of major crimes, who have reportedly harassed Kohberger since his arrival by taunting and yelling at him through the vents in his cell.

Those taunts are reportedly still ongoing and appear to be the reason he wants out of J Block.

“The prisoners are still relentlessly harassing him to the point now where he has written staff messages saying if they don’t move him out of J-Block, he is going to harm himself,” retired homicide detective Chris McDonough revealed, per the Daily Mail.

McDonough has, in the past, given updates about Kohberger’s prison life following complaints the killer made about being taunted.

Despite the seriousness of Kohberger’s threat, there is a notion that he may simply be “playing games” to force the hand of prison authorities.

“The question is, is he using a threat about harming himself as leverage to get out of J-Block? Or does he really feel he’s going to harm himself?” McDonough noted to the outlet, adding that many of the threats from Kohberger were also made verbally.

“He’s not saying, ‘I’m going to kill myself,’ it’s ‘I’m going to harm myself,'” the ex-cop stated.

Still, his threats are being taken seriously to prevent him from carrying them out if he is being genuine.

“They’re keeping him isolated and are carrying out more checks on him and his cell,” McDonough said about the safety measures being implemented. “And they are obviously not letting him have access to anything he could use to harm himself, like shoelaces or sharp instruments such as pencils or pens.”

One other complaint Kohberger has recently made is about the kind of bananas he is being served in prison.

“They’re not the kind that he likes,” retired homicide detective Chris McDonough revealed to the Daily Mail at the time. “I’m not sure if that means they may have bruises on them, and he doesn’t like that, or if there is a particular type of banana that he likes. But he’s complaining about the food he’s getting.”

At the time, McDonough also hinted at the reason behind Kohberger’s incessant complaints.

“It’s about power and control,” he told the outlet. “He was a nobody until he murdered four people… he was irrelevant to the world.”

“And now he’s Bryan Kohberger, who has slaughtered four people. And, because he didn’t have to stand up in court and tell the world how brutal these crimes were, he holds the cards. And he’s trying to leverage that,” McDonough also remarked.

Kohberger was sentenced to prison for a quadruple homicide involving Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20.

The former criminology student confessed to murdering the quartet in a plea deal earlier in the year.

However, he did not reveal the reason behind his actions, and it is the general belief of those who worked on the case that the motive may never be known.

“Why this happened, what the connection was between him and the victims,” said Bill Thompson, one of the prosecutors who worked on the case. “We don’t believe we will ever know.”

Thompson further revealed that the sentiment surrounding Kohberger’s motive was also shared by FBI profilers when the investigation into the murders began.

According to the prosecutor, the killer speaking about the reason behind his vile act would not be helpful either, as it would sound senseless to ordinary people.

“They told us to expect to never know why this happened, and that even if the murderer talked about it at some point, that whatever the murderer said wouldn’t make any sense to ordinary people like us, and it will mostly be self-serving,” Thompson noted.
