Ever wonder if Vecna’s new “snatched” waistline has anything to do with Mercury’s mischievous dance through Virgo—sharpening our eyes for detail and maybe even those unsolicited body critiques? Well, Stranger Things fans barely had time to catch their breath after the first four episodes of season five, Volume 1 dropped (Netflix nearly melted under the demand, by the way), and their reactions have been nothing short of cosmic chaos. Between Vecna’s dramatic glow-down, Will Byers’ unexpected glow-up, and a finale moment that had jaws dropping like asteroids, emotions are swirling faster than a Mercury retrograde. The Duffer Brothers themselves admit that fan reactions are like unexpected planetary alignments—sometimes predictable, often surprising, but always thrilling. So, if you’ve ever felt like your own powers were about to awaken amidst the stars’ mysteries, just wait until you see what Hawkins has in store this time. [This story contains MAJOR spoilers for Stranger Things season five, Volume 1, including episode four, “Sorcerer.”]

The first part of the final season of Stranger Things is here and fans aren’t holding back on their reactions.

After waiting four years to return to the Upside Down, viewers bombarded Netflix on Wednesday when the first four episodes dropped (they even crashed the streamer initially). And between Vecna’s new look, Will Byers’ glow up and that epic final scene in episode four, fans are rightfully going through all the emotions.

Ahead of the Volume 1 releases, the Duffer Brothers admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that fan reactions are one of their favorite parts of releasing a project.

“One of the things that’s so exciting about the show is we’re surprised constantly by the reactions,” Matt Duffer said. “We think we know what are going to be the big moments, what fans will react to, and sometimes we’re right and sometimes we’re wrong. But then there are often surprises, going back to season one with Barb [Shannon Purser]. Dr. Alexei [Alec Utgoff] was a huge surprise. We did not know people were going to respond to him quite in the way that they did. That, in some ways, is actually the more fun part of it, when they surprise us with what they’re responding to.”

He added, “I’m really excited to see how they react to the end of Volume 1, because we designed the volumes so they’re basically like mega movies. The end of episode four has its own climax and I’m excited how they react to that. And of course, I’m excited to see how they react to the finale, which we will be able to be in there with them live — and hopefully they’re not all booing.”

And now, the co-creators have finally received their first round of reactions to episodes one through four. Below, THR is rounding up some of the wildest ones from social media.
