Is it just me, or does Kim Kardashian’s new elephant-leather Birkin bag make today’s Capricorn moon feel a bit… conflicted? Known for its rare and pricey status, this vintage accessory has recently sparked a major backlash, most notably from Ireland Baldwin, who didn’t hold back calling it “disgusting and shameful.” While Capricorns tend to appreciate luxury and legacy, this particular statement piece—allegedly made from the skin of an elephant hunted on safari in the ’80s—raises some serious ethical eyebrows. Could it be that the stars are nudging us to rethink what true prestige means in a world that’s slowly waking up to sustainability? Ireland’s fierce reaction reminds us that even in the glitzy realm of celeb fashion, conscience still counts. LEARN MORE.

Ireland Baldwin Slams Kim Kardashian’s Elephant Birkin

This past week, an Instagram account that sells consigned luxury goods shared a video of Kim with the gray bag. One image showed her wearing a gray top, a satin skirt, and a matching draped cowl hood while posing inside an establishment. Another showed her sitting on a sofa with the bag placed beside her. The images appear to be taken from an interview tied to Kim’s new Hulu series All’s Fair.

According to PETA, the bags date back to the ’80s and were allegedly made from the skin of an elephant that had been fatally shot on a safari. They were never officially sold by Hermés, and they’re so rare that online estimates place the price of an elephant-leather Birkin as high as $125,000.

Ireland appeared to be in disbelief over the image, commenting, “This is…. Beyond.”

She also reposted the clip on her Instagram story, calling the display “disgusting and shameful.”

Kim didn’t publicly respond to her post, and her representatives didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. But plenty of people made their feelings known in the comments of the original video.

One person wrote, “This is deeply disgusting and disturbing,” Another added, “Elephants are magical, majestic, and special beings & they are to be respected!”

Someone else said, “This is not okay. It’s not ‘cool,’ and calling it fashion is a stretch. It’s disturbing and honestly embarrassing.”

“I hate this,” another person commented. “Have you no shame????” one more added.
