Ever had one of those moments where you’re just chilling on a movie set, thinking you’re blending into the background, only to realize you’ve been casually chatting with a Hollywood legend the whole time? Well, under today’s cosmic spotlight—where Mercury’s doing a little dance that makes conversations delightfully unpredictable—our anonymous day player found themselves in exactly that kind of scene during the filming of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Playing a humble chauffeur among big names like De Niro and DiCaprio might sound intimidating, but the real plot twist was mistaking Oscar-winning actor Tantoo Cardinal for just another extra on the porch. “I worked on the movie Killers of the Flower Moon by Martin Scorsese when it was being filmed. I ended up getting a line in the movie later on, but that day, I was just a day player playing a chauffeur for a wedding scene. There were the obvious super famous people like Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and such, but we weren’t supposed to talk to them.”
“During a break between scenes, I was sitting on the porch of the house they built for the movie, just fanning myself and resting in the shade. An older Native American lady was sitting next to me, resting as well. We talked for a bit about the heat and various other things. I then asked her, ‘So have you ever worked on a movie before?’ Naturally, thinking she was just another background actor like me. ‘I’ve actually worked on quite a few movies in my day,'” She replied. I said, ‘Oh, cool, this is my second time working on a set, but I’m having a great time, and it’s really cool to see how this works.’ She agreed with me, and we chatted a bit longer before the break was over. I took a picture with her as I had taken photos of most everyone I worked with just to keep the memories.
Later that night, driving home, I had sent my mom some pictures from that day, and she was like, ‘Oh my God, you got to meet Tantoo Cardinal?!’ I had no idea what she meant, and she explained how that’s one of her favorite actors and how super famous she was. I had no clue, but I cringed once I realized I had asked if this was her first time to an Oscar-winning performer.”
