Cheryl Burke initially sparked backlash for what some presumed was an insensitive and out-of-touch post. However, her swift response to the situation earned her the love and support of many, particularly because she sympathized with the Minneapolis victims.

After getting called out for her post, Burke immediately took it down and issued a sincere apology to fans and those affected by the Minneapolis church shooting. She shared three pictures that depicted the statement she had penned for her followers on Instagram.

Burke explained that when she dropped the transition video, which included the sound of a gun, she was “completely unaware of the horrific school shooting.” She noted she deleted the post out of respect for the lives impacted by the tragedy and acknowledged the pain her post could have caused.

“I know words cannot undo harm, but I hope this message makes clear that I am holding myself accountable and moving forward with more awareness and sensitivity,” Burke wrote. She stressed that she never wanted her content “to feel careless or disconnected from the world” and vowed to be more mindful.

Throughout her statement, Burke repeatedly emphasized that she was unaware of the mass shooting and her heart was with the victims and their families. She echoed similar sentiments in the post’s caption, apologizing for the since-deleted post and the harm it might have caused.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected,” Burke concluded. Her heartfelt message resonated deeply with fans, who applauded her for acknowledging her mistake and apologizing.

Someone implored Burke not to feel guilty, as anyone could have made the same mistake. Another echoed similar sentiments, writing, “Apology not needed, but deeply appreciated by many, I’m sure.” A third agreed, claiming they did not know about the mass shooting until Burke addressed the incident.

According to The Daily Mail, two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed after a gunman opened fire on a Catholic church in Minneapolis. The culprit, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, reportedly died at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Westman attacked with a shotgun and a pistol while the Annunciation Catholic School was holding its start-of-year mass. He fired a hailstorm of bullets through the church’s stained glass windows as the children, staff, and parents inside rushed for cover.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that 17 people, including 14 children, were injured during the incident. He described the culprit as a “coward,” noting the motive for the unprovoked attack remains unclear, as Westman had no criminal history.

O’Hara revealed Westman’s attack on the church was premeditated as he stopped people from escaping by lodging “two by fours” between the door handles. He approached the building from the side before “firing a rifle through the church windows towards the children sitting in the pews at the mass.”

“This was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshiping,” O’Hara added. The shooter’s vehicle was found parked inside the church lot, and a “smoke bomb firework” was discovered during investigations.
