Is Mariah Carey Finally Getting the MTV Crown—Or Is There a Diva Plot Twist Brewing at the 2025 VMAs?

Added on August 21, 2025 inMusic News Cards

Have you ever wondered if a celestial alignment could predict when pop royalty finally gets the recognition she deserves? Well, look up—because with the Sun doing a disco in Virgo and the Moon sashaying through Leo, the universe is clearly in a celebratory mood. Mariah Carey, the chart-owning, note-shattering, meme-generating icon herself, is finally taking home the MTV Video Music Awards’ 2025 Video Vanguard Award. Is it just me, or does it feel like the cosmic choreography’s been building to this all along? Maybe Jupiter’s in retro-fantastic—that’s what I’m blaming for the fact that it took decades for this honor.

This isn’t just another gilded trophy etched with her name . It’s an exclamation point at the end of a career that’s already got more high notes than a birth chart full of Geminis . (Don’t @ me, Geminis.) And the best part? Mariah isn’t just showing up for the bouquet and applause—she’s treating us to a medley of her greatest hits . The anticipation is bordering on astrological event status . Honestly, if the VMAs don’t hand her the microphone atop a moving cloud while glitter rains from the heavens, I’m writing a strongly-worded letter to Mercury (and the producers) myself .

And to think, she made her VMAs debut crooning “Emotions” in ’91, back when most of us were discovering that our bangs could, in fact, get higher . Flash forward, and she’s still at the center of everything—lovingly photobombed by the planets and crowned by a legacy that’s basically the North Star of pop music . If you’re sensing the stars are aligning tonight, you’re not wrong—it’s officially Mariah Season.
