Imagine kicking back at a Maluma concert, the beat dropping heavy, the crowd buzzing—and then boom, the show grinds to a halt, not for a technical glitch or a wild fan stunt, but because the Colombian superstar spots a baby in the standing section. That’s right, under the scorching spotlight at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, Maluma didn’t hesitate to call out a mom who brought her tiny one-year-old to a deafening concert. With Mercury retrograde maybe stirring up some communication chaos, or perhaps the no-nonsense Virgo moon urging responsibility, Maluma—now a dad himself—delivered a sincere and sharp reminder about baby ear protection and parental awareness. It’s a moment that’s got everyone talking, raising some serious questions about concert etiquette and parental instincts—because seriously, who’s the real star here, the performer or the protector? Colombian rapper Maluma stopped his show to tell a mother off for bringing her child along.

The 31-year-old was performing at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City as part of his ‘+Pretty +Dirty World Tour’, performing popular songs such as ‘Hawái’ and ‘Felices los 4’.

Maluma was well into his show in the Mexican capital over the weekend, days on from the start of the tour’s current leg on 6 August, after spotting an ‘irresponsible’ mother in the crowd.

Real name Juan Luis Londoño Arias, the rapper started to criticise the mum’s actions after seeing that she’d brought her baby with her into what looked to be the standing section of the crowd.

Halting the songs, he took a moment to get on the microphone and have a conversation with the fan.

A video of the exchange has since gone viral online, with many praising the way which Maluma handled the situation,

Noticing that the child didn’t have any ear protection, the rapper asked while taking his sunglasses off: “With all due respect… how old are they?”

“A year old? Less? A year,” he repeated, after asking in Spanish: “Do you think it’s a good idea to bring a one-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are this f**king high? Where the sound is this loud?”

The 31-year-old continued, pointing out: “That baby doesn’t even know what it’s doing here. Next time, protect their ears or something. For real. It’s heavy.

“It’s your responsibility. You’re waving them around like they’re a toy. That baby doesn’t want to be there, for real.”

“I’m telling you with all love and respect, now that I’m a father [I] would never bring them to a concert. For the next time, be a bit more aware,” he urged.

Needless to say that social media users loved the way the rapper addressed the issue, and the respectful way he spoke to the fan.

One asked on X: “Why did security let her in with a baby that young and without ear protection?”

Another said: “Bro is absolutely right, hats off to him,” with a third adding: “Protecting fans, especially the most vulnerable, should always come before the performance, and he made that crystal clear.”

The show was part of the artist’s final leg of the world tour, which is set to wrap up in Guadalajara, Mexico, on 16 August.

Maluma’s final show on this tour will though, be held in El Salvador on 23 August, five months on from its first date in Spain.

The rapper mentioned that he was a father, having welcomed his first child with partner Susana Gomez last year.

He shared snaps of his daughter, Paris Londoño Gomez, two weeks after her birth, writing: “My first 15 days as a Dad, this is the best I’ve ever lived in my Life.”
