How’s this for cosmic irony: under today’s starry skies, where Mercury’s meandering might spark some retrograde-level déjà vu, Will Smith drops a freestyle that’s got everyone doing double takes — because yep, he’s throwing shade (or maybe just some bars) at that infamous Oscars slap heard ‘round the world. You know, the one where a quick flick of Will’s hand on Chris Rock’s face rewrote Hollywood history and inboxes everywhere got flooded with memes. Now, years later, with the planets aligning just right for stirring the pot and digging up old stardust, Will’s back on the mic reflecting on that wild night — but is it apology, defiance, or just pure theatrical flair? Buckle up, because this encore could have you questioning: can a moment as charged as that really be rapped away? Or are we just orbiting an endless remix of one slap heard ‘round the cosmos? Dive into the messiness and judge for yourself. LEARN MORE

Will Smith References Chris Rock Oscars Slap In Freestyle

Let’s face it: We’ll be talking about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars for the rest of our lives.

The slap heard around the world has been discussed by all parties in the years since it happened. Will Smith addressed it directly four months after the incident — which resulted in a 10-year ban from attending the Oscars — took place.

Meanwhile, Jada Pinkett Smith — who was previously separated from Will, and who was the butt of Chris’ joke that caused the slap to begin with — has claimed that the slap actually made her want to recommit in “healing” the issues regarding their marriage.

Now, if you’ve been following the general trajectory of popular culture this year, you probably know that Will has also made something of a comeback as a rapper. To wit: He recently appeared on Apple Music’s Fire in the Booth series to drop a freestyle — and, wouldn’t you know it, it sure sounds like he’s talking about the damn slap in it.

Don’t take my word for it, though — judge for yourself from the following lyrics: “If you talking crazy out your face up on the stage and disrespect me on the stage, expect me on the stage…Jokers dish it out, cry foul when it’s time to take it/ City full of real ones, wasn’t raised to fake it.”

Hmm. Hmm! Do you think he could possibly be referring to anything else? If so, enlighten me in the comments.
