Elijah Blue Allman, the 47-year-old son of music legend Cher and the late Gregg Allman, was hospitalized over the weekend following a suspected drug overdose, and now, heartbreaking new details are shedding light on what may have triggered the incident.

According to law enforcement sources, paramedics were dispatched to Elijah’s home in Landers, California, where they found him in a distressed state. When deputies arrived shortly after, they discovered narcotics on the premises. Prior to the emergency call, Allman had reportedly been located in nearby Joshua Tree and rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

Officials say the investigation into Cher’s son’s overdose is ongoing.

Sources close to the family claim that the timing of the incident was no coincidence. Father’s Day, they say, reopened emotional wounds for Elijah, who has never fully come to terms with the loss of his father, legendary Southern rock icon Gregg Allman.

“He loved his dad more than anything on earth,” one insider told The Daily Mail. “He was the only person Elijah ever truly felt he could trust.”

Gregg Allman, a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, was one of the most revered voices in American rock history. Known for his gritty vocals, expressive keyboard work, and deeply personal songwriting, Gregg helped define the Southern rock genre in the late 1960s and ’70s.

The Allman Brothers Band, formed in 1969, fused elements of blues, jazz, country, and rock into a groundbreaking sound that influenced generations. Songs like “Midnight Rider,” “Melissa,” and “Whipping Post” became timeless anthems, while their 1971 live album “At Fillmore East” is still regarded as one of the best live recordings of all time.

Gregg’s personal life, however, was marked by as much turmoil as his professional life was filled with success.

He battled addiction throughout his career and faced the tragic loss of his brother and bandmate, Duane Allman, in a 1971 motorcycle accident. Despite the struggles, he remained a prolific artist, releasing critically acclaimed solo work including “Laid Back” and “I’m No Angel.”

His brief, high-profile marriage to Cher in the 1970s resulted in the birth of Elijah Blue, who inherited not only his father’s musical talent but also, tragically, some of the same personal demons. Gregg Allman passed away in 2017 after a long battle with liver cancer. He was 69.

Elijah, who has spoken openly in the past about his struggles with substance abuse and trauma, once described heroin as something that “saved” him during his darkest times.

From an early age, Elijah was surrounded by icons of the music industry and quickly began forging a path of his own.

At just 12 years old, Elijah appeared in his mother Cher’s 1989 music video for “If I Could Turn Back Time,” playing the guitar gifted to him by KISS bassist Gene Simmons. It was a fitting start for someone destined to follow in the footsteps of rock royalty.

After graduating high school, Elijah dove deeper into his musical pursuits. He credits Richie Sambora, guitarist for Bon Jovi and one of Cher’s ex-boyfriends, as a major influence on his development.

“Richie and I would sit up all night playing guitar,” he told The Daily Mail in 2014. “He would play me some really pivotal things that shaped who I became as a musician.”

But Elijah’s journey has not been without hardship.

In 2014, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Lyme disease, a battle he described as “so much darker” than his well-documented struggle with substance abuse. While seeking medical treatment in Germany, Elijah met Marieangela “Queenie” King, the woman who would later become his wife.

“This then makes you look back at this hideous ordeal that you went through that would lead you to meeting the love of your life and this is how crazy life is,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the time.

Their relationship, however, eventually became a source of controversy.

In September 2023, King made headlines when, as part of divorce proceedings, she accused Cher of orchestrating a shocking scheme to “kidnap” Elijah from a New York City hotel room.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, King alleged that Cher hired four men to forcibly remove Elijah from the hotel out of concern for his well-being, as he and King were in the midst of reconciling their marriage. The alleged incident took place in late 2022, around their ninth wedding anniversary. King claimed that one of the men told her directly that Cher was behind the intervention.

Cher swiftly denied the allegations in an October 2023 interview with PEOPLE, stating simply, “That rumor is not true,” and choosing not to elaborate further.
