Michelle Randolph’s Malibu Horror Thriller: Is This Landman Actress About to Get Spooked on Screen?

So, Michelle Randolph’s cooking up quite the storm again—after shining in Taylor Sheridan’s gritty dramas like 1923 and Landman, now she’s flirting with the dark side in a horror thriller called Malibu. Yep, the same Malibu that’s described as “a thriller skulking around in the subterranean horror subgenre.” I mean, talk about digging deep—making us wonder if the stars today have something to do with unearthing hidden fears or secrets lurking beneath the surface. Honestly, with Randolph in the mix, and Tod Williams (of Paranormal Activity 2 fame) directing, this one’s already got my attention. Plus, if that’s not enough horror for your calendar, Randolph’s also gearing up for Scream 7, hitting cinemas February 2026. Meanwhile, the Landman crew—featuring a stellar cast including Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, and newcomer Sam Elliott—is revving up for season two, capturing the boomtown chaos of Texas oil fields with enough melodrama and grit to make you forget your own problems for a while. So, is Michelle the queen of genre-hopping for a reason, or are the stars just aligning to keep us on our toes? Either way, I’m hooked already. <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/landman-michelle-randolph-horror-thriller-1236257928/?utmmedium=email&utmsource=exacttarget&utmcampaign=HV+6-6-25&utmcontent=6131236-6-2025&utmid=613123″>LEARN MORE

According to THR, Michelle Randolph—who’s made a strong impression with standout roles in Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 and Landman—is in talks to star in Malibu, an upcoming horror thriller from Paranormal Activity 2 director Tod Williams.

Not much is known about the project, other than that it’s described as “a thriller skulking around in the subterranean horror subgenre.” The film is expected to shoot later this year. Malibu isn’t the only horror film Randolph has on her slate. She’s also part of the ensemble cast of Scream 7, which is set for a February 27, 2026 release.

As for Landman, production on the second season is well underway. Randolph plays Ainsley, the daughter of Billy Bob Thornton’s character. Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Landman is “set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas and is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the notable 11-part podcast Boomtown from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.

Thornton and Randolph have returned for the new season alongside Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore. The legendary Sam Elliott is a new addition to the cast, although it’s not certain who he will be playing.

Thornton spoke with Awards Radar last month to say he’s “loving” what they’ve been doing with the second season so far. “The relationships are getting even more developed, and the cast is gelling even more,” he said. “It just seems more and more real every day, so I’m very, very happy with it. It deals with the relationships a lot this year, so I’m very happy about that.

Our own Alex Maidy thought the first season of Landman was Taylor Sheridan’s best work since the first season of Yellowstone. “Landman offers a mix of melodrama, sex, and the spoiled lifestyles of the rich and powerful with the high stakes of those who may not survive working in the oil fields and yet put their life on the line day after day,” Maidy wrote. “This story blends the gritty tone of Mayor of Kingstown with the guilty pleasure glimpse of the rich from Yellowstone with the just right sense of humor of Tulsa King for a fantastic television experience.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.
