Dwight Eubanks, a beloved cast member from Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” has recently opened up about a frightening health battle he’s facing.

In a new interview, the 64-year-old celebrity hairstylist, who appeared on earlier seasons of “RHOA” as a friend of NeNe Leakes, Shereé Whitfield, and Phaedra Parks, also revealed how he’s been handling it.

While speaking with PEOPLE, Eubanks told the publication that he was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, the same kind his grandfather was diagnosed with nearly 30 years ago.

However, the reality star and celebrity stylist was under the impression that his health was fine because his family’s history of prostate cancer came from his mother’s side, a detail doctors had reportedly advised him was less of a concern.

“So I’m thinking that I’m good,” he revealed. “I was confident that I was Superman. I was cleared. I was going to be okay, and I just never thought about it.”

That all changed for Eubanks, though, who received the news after undergoing bloodwork at a health fair at his church. “I was shocked. I was angry,” he recalled. “I was just emotionally a wreck.”

“When you hear the word cancer, you freak out. I’m human. Society has told us that cancer was just devastating and, you know, you just have days to live. So, of course, I freaked out and I think I’m still freaked out,” Eubanks added.

And as Eubanks began processing the news about his diagnosis, the reality star reportedly learned from his doctors that his cancer might have been detectable as early as 2022.

He explained that as part of his routine checkups, his doctors had noted high PSA levels that year but reportedly never informed him of this specific finding.

“I was like, are you kidding me? This was back in 2022, and nobody said anything to me. He just said, ‘You’re undetectable, so you are fine.’ Never said anything about my prostate. I guess they just weren’t looking at that,” he revealed.

As he continued, Eubanks said that all he can do now is “laugh” to keep from “crying about this whole journey.”

Now that he’s had time to process, Eubanks said that he’s still deciding which course of treatment will be best for him.

“… we are exploring possibilities to see what route to go and we have not come up with that yet,” he told the publication. “I have a great team, about four different doctors: two urologists, another specialist, and my family physician. So I’m comfortable, and I’m forever grateful to have such a team and support. And we are going to figure it out.”

Overall, the Bravo personality expressed a positive outlook, stating he feels “good” and is focusing on what he can control.

“I’m 64, that’s young to me,” he said. “We’re all going to go through something. But when we reach those bridges, you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself of,f and carry on. Because life really is a beautiful thing.”

And Eubanks isn’t the only “RHOA” alum speaking out about their health. Monyetta Shaw-Carter, ex-partner of Ne-Yo, also recently revealed to PEOPLE her breast cancer diagnosis, which she learned about in 2024.

She explained that after going to the doctor in September of that year, she was diagnosed with “slow-growing” stage 1 breast cancer.

After 16 rounds of radiation, however, Shaw-Carter was officially declared cancer-free in May 2025.

“Because I caught the cancer early, I will be here for my kids,” she said. “There’s nothing more important than getting checked often and early to protect your future. Our health is irreplaceable. I can’t thank my exceptional doctors and nurses enough. They are our heroes!”

“It’s so important for me to share this story because I hope to inspire others not to dismiss their gut feeling,” she continued. “Our body speaks to us and when it does we have to listen. It can be a matter of life or death.”
