Why Mars Conjunctions in Your Natal Chart Are Secretly Running Your Life—and You Didn’t Even See It Coming

Added on May 12, 2025 inASTROLOGY CARDS

Isn’t it wild how a chart you thought you’d known inside and out suddenly throws you a curveball decades later? Here I am, half a century into understanding my own astrology—Mars conjunct Mercury in the 9th house of Libra—and bam! A fresh angle just dropped like a plot twist in a binge-worthy drama. Sure, Mars is typically that loudmouth force of raw energy, blazing ahead like a motorcycle running on espresso shots (yep, my first ride was a beast of one). But did I ever stop to consider the Scorpio layer hiding beneath, with Mars proudly holding the Scorpio scepter and my 8th house crammed with all things dark and taboo? That combo brings a whole new shade to my fast-talking, risk-taking, challenge-seeking self. Suddenly, what I thought was just brash bravado feels like a deep dive into taboo waters—just the way I like it, minus the superficial “deep dive” drivel that makes me want to throw my phone.

This is more than just astrology gossip—it’s an excavation into how courage, candor, and a hint of the taboo live in the same space. And trust me, this revelation explains a lot about why sometimes, despite all that blathering, I just end up keeping quiet (who knew silence had so much personality?). So, how might your own Mars conjunction look if you take a peek through Scorpio’s seductive lenses? Ready to find out if you’ve been winging it or actually swimming in those deep cosmic waters?

LEARN MORE.

TabooI should not be able to find a new angle on my own chart, after half a century, but that’s what’s happened.

I have Mars conjunct Mercury in my 9th house in Libra. The effects are obvious. My first car was a motorcycle.  I have sped around my entire life. I think fast, I talk fast, I race ahead, and I’m very tolerant of risk. I also seek challenge in relationship, challenge others, and can be inordinately crass, in speech.

When I was younger, I loved to gamble and gloat when I won. I also push my point of view, and have a point of view, for that matter.  I’m generally brash and bawdy. I laugh at off-color jokes. I’ll talk first and think later… I could go on for awhile in this vein, but the other day it hit me!

Yes,  Mars is brash.  It represents raw male energy.  But hey!  Doesn’t Mars rule Scorpio, too?

Well, I know I’m a deep character.   I have a packed 8th house!

I’ve seen myself as an insightful person who is candid!  But when I rethought my Mars Mercury conjunction (Fresh Astro Insight Into Making Modern Relationships Work). something broke loose!

It was because of this post:

Pluto Transit To My Sun: Raw, Real & Invigorating

Horror or no, I was definitely enjoying  hearing these very dark stories, never mind, I’ve told quite a few dark stories, myself.  It’s got to mean something! 9th house!

Today, I see myself as someone with the courage to go deep. I can take it.  I can also dish it. I can parse it (Mercury) and find meaning in it (9th).

I can also understand something deeply, and talk about it, honestly.  I don’t think the things I previously thought about this conjunction are wrong. I think this is additional.

You won’t believe the precursor to this epiphany.  I have a long history of being enraged by overused phrases… which is pretty much all we have in this day and age.  I was all hotted up and going to write about this, “deep dive” bs.  So many get on video and say they are going to take a “deep dive” into  whatever. They then proceed to swim in circles on the surface, saying nothing.  I have to walk away, before my head explodes.

I think is a much clearer read on my personality. Yes, my 8th house is drawn to taboo, but it’s my 9th house Mars conjunct the ruler of my sun, that seeks it.

I also note, this explains why so often, I say nothing. This understanding also emerged from writing the shack story. I really held my cards at that time. It made me realize, I do this, more often than not, and I blather all day.

How does your view of the Mars conjunction in your chart change, if you consider the Scorpio angle?
