Seth Rogen’s Golden Globes Scene Just Triggered a Furious Film Exec—And Trust Me, Their Face Is Priceless (But Not Happy)

Added on May 9, 2025 inCelebrity News Cards

Isn’t it curious how life sometimes hands you the exact material you need, even if it’s wrapped in a bit of awkwardness? Seth Rogen, together with his longtime partner Evan Goldberg, mined the often chaotic and ego-fueled world of Hollywood to craft The Studio—a sharp, ten-part Apple TV+ series that spills the tar and glitter behind Tinseltown’s velvet curtain. Now, with Mercury still doing its cosmic dance in Gemini, stirring up communication and unexpected revelations, it feels fitting that the show’s juicy ‘Golden Globes’ episode was ripped straight from a painfully real playbook—one that features a desperate movie exec meltdown over not getting a ‘thank you.’ Imagine witnessing that scene unfold in real life! It turns out, even in the world of cinematic giants, the hunger for recognition can make you do some truly cringe-worthy things. And while Rogen’s muse might not be thrilled about starring in this real-life reenactment, we’re just here munching popcorn and wondering—how much of showbiz is really just a cosmic blow-up waiting to happen?

Seth Rogen drew upon a lot of his own experiences while creating The Studio with his longtime producing partner Evan Goldberg.

Every interaction he had while climbing up the metaphorical ladder of the showbiz world was stashed away in the back of his mind for a rainy day – and when he was creating his new Apple TV+ series, the floodgates opened.

You’d think that inspiring a scene in the ten-part show would be quite the honour, but it turns out that some people aren’t too pleased about being a prominent part of the plot line.

Speaking to LADbible ahead of the series’ release, Rogen revealed that the film executive who gave him the idea for the latest episode ‘isn’t that happy’ about being his muse.

The Studio has been taking the world by storm since it debuted in March, and fans have been drip-fed instalments on a weekly basis ever since.

Rogen stars as the newly appointed head of the embattled Continental Studios, Matt Remick, who struggles between producing films with actual substance versus movies that will equate to substantial sales at the box office.

Along with this ‘core team of infighting executives’ – consisting of cinematic legends such as Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders – Remick teeters between ‘glittering success or career-ending catastrophes’ in each episode.

The eighth instalment of The Studio was no different… but what makes this chapter even more enthralling is knowing that Remick’s antics were directly inspired by the real-life behaviour of an actual movie studio executive.

In the aptly-named ‘The Golden Globes‘ episode, which dropped on Wednesday (7 May), the gang of movie bigwigs head to the annual awards show which honours Hollywood’s finest for all their hard work.

However, not everyone in attendance receives recognition – which comes much to the disappointment of Rogen’s character, who firmly believes he deserves a nod of appreciation.

Us mere mortals only get to see the pristine, polished version of what goes down at glitzy events like The Golden Globes when watching from home, but we’ve now got a decent bit of insight of what it’s really like thanks to The Studio.

It turns out that pretty much everyone in attendance is in the market for an ego boost, including those who are at the top of Hollywood’s food chain, like Remick.

He’s desperate to get a thank you from Zoe Kravitz – who appears as herself – during her acceptance speech, as he reckons that as he was responsible for green lighting her film, it’s only fair.

Kravitz is on a completely different page though and doesn’t see why she should slip in Remick’s name on stage, prompting the studio boss to go to extreme lengths to get the public acknowledgement he craves.

Remick sneaks backstage to tamper with the teleprompter in the hopes of sneaking in some complimentary words about himself, only for the actress to catch him red-handed, making for quite the embarrassing moment.

Despite bending over backwards throughout the entirety of night in a bid to secure the pat on the back he yearns for, Remick doesn’t end up getting his flowers.

He puts on a brave face, but he can’t disguise how downtrodden he feels when he finally makes it back into every celebrity’s place of solace after a night at an awards show – the limousine shuttling them home.

Viewers might have thought that these levels of desperation were a bit far-fetched, as really, who could be bothered showing themselves up at a star-studded bash like that?

But Rogen, 43, revealed it’s not as absurd as you might think… as he explained that the episode is actually a mimicry of reality, as he lived through an almost identical experience.

Ahead of the series release, the comedian explained that he previously bore witness to a manic movie executive who had an absolute meltdown because they didn’t get thanked at an awards show.

And as Rogen watched the unidentified studio magnate dramatically, and publicly, lose their cool, one thing crossed his mind: “I’m going to put that into something one day.”

Explaining what moments from The Studio were inspired by real life events, he told LADbible: “There’s so many. But there was a moment where I worked on a film that won a Golden Globe and one of the executives wasn’t thanked – and they were literally crying at the party afterwards.

Rogen continued: “And we saw them crying and were like, ‘Are you crying because we won?’ And they were like, ‘No, I’m crying because I wasn’t thanked!’

“That always really stuck with me, and I remember thinking, ‘I’m going to put that into something one day’.”

Rogen then revealed that the movie exec had a few choice words for him after finding out that they had inspired ‘The Golden Globes’ episode.

“They are aware of it – and they have seen the show and confronted me about it,” he laughed. “They weren’t that happy. They were like: ‘It’s based on me?!”

The Pineapple Express actor explained he had ‘kept trying to say’ that they should consider it as a compliment, but it seems his muse still isn’t thrilled about inadvertently making it into The Studio.

I guess that’s just showbiz for you, eh?

The Studio is available to stream on Apple TV+ now.
