For reference, the song “Juno” features a moment in live performances when Sabrina acts out a sex position while singing, “Have you ever tried this one?” While each pose on the tour has been pretty risqué, her recent few have definitely raised some eyebrows. Fans have spotted that Sabrina seems to be making references to cities she performs in, with a London Bridge pose in the UK and the recent Paris pose making a naughty reference to the Eiffel Tower.
While Sabrina has definitely faced lots of backlash from scandalized parents who deem her performances “inappropriate” for a young audience, she also receives huge support online for her unapologetic nature when it comes to embracing her sexuality. Despite it all, there is still a huge debate online as to where the fault lies when parents criticize her provocative lyrics and dances — with many folks suggesting that it’s up to the parents to police what their kids engage with.
Now, in a recent episode of The Armchair Expert podcast, Dax Shepard, his co-host Monica Padman, and guest Andrew Schulz chatted about his and his daughter’s shared love of Sabrina — revealing that they wound up having a pretty awkward conversation when she asked about “Juno.”
Talking about how he recently has become a Sabrina super fan, Dax shared that his favorite song of hers is “Bed Chem,” and that he and his 10-year-old daughter, Delta, “listen to it every morning” on the way to school.
“It’s really fun now that I love her favorite artist. It’s fun for her. Because now I’m on the Sabrina train,” Dax explained. Monica pointed out that Sabrina “gets sexy,” saying that “there’s some real sexual stuff” in her music. “Juno is sexual,” she added after Dax shared that Delta recommended the song to him.
Dax then recalled that he and Delta were, in fact, having a conversation about the meaning of “Juno” recently. As the two were discussing the song, Delta apparently asked Dax if he knew what “Juno” was, to which he hesitantly responded, “No.”
Delta explained, “Well, it’s a movie,” to which Dax responded, “Oh, the movie Juno? Yeah, I know.” Delta then confirmed that the movie is about a “girl who gets pregnant,” before Dax said, “Ooh, that’s a little nasty.”
Delta apparently then asked, “What’s nasty about wanting to have a baby with somebody?” to which Dax had to explain that Juno was still in high school, which made the story a little “racy” in their eyes. Recalling the conversation, Dax remembered: “And the way she phrased it was like, ‘Wait, what’s nasty about wanting to have a baby with someone you love?’ And I was like, ‘Oh no, there’s nothing nasty about that, I’m just saying, ‘I wanna get pregnant in high school’ is kind of a nasty, fun lyric. It’s a positive nasty, I’m saying.’”
Dax has shared that he and his wife, Kristen Bell, are pretty open with their kids when it comes to speaking about sex. The couple previously made headlines when opening up about their approach to discussing more mature topics with their daughters.
In a 2023 issue of Real Simple, Kristen shared that there are no “taboo” topics in their household. “I hate the word ‘taboo.’ I think it should be stricken from the dictionary. There should be no topic that’s off the table for people to talk about,” she said. “I know it’s shocking, but I talk to my kids about drugs, and the fact that their daddy is an addict and he’s in recovery. And we talk about sex.”
