It’s never easy to cope with such a momentous loss, but sometimes, it just has to be done when we lose that which we took for granted.
I am of course talking about Jason Momoa shaving off his beard in preparation for his return to the Dune franchise, with the upcoming third movie scheduled to release at the end of 2026.
You might remember that Momoa’s character in Dune, Duncan Idaho, appeared to be killed to death back in the first movie, and as such, he was understandably absent from the sequel.
However, not to spoil the events of the book Dune Messiah that the third movie will be based on, but Momoa’s character does return in some capacity, and as such, he needs to shed his chin of the glorious covering that had adorned it for years.
Momoa’s verdict of himself without the beard was to declare ‘god dammit, I hate it’, so it sounds like he’s not the biggest fan of going beardless.
However, he said that working on Dune was ‘really special’ and he would be shaving his beard ‘only for you, Denis’, in reference to Dune director Denis Villeneuve.
As he shaved off his beard, Momoa also spoke of his bottled water company Mananalu and his hopes of reducing waste with reusable metal bottles.
The actor explained that he started his water company at around the time he got to working on the first Dune movie, and it had been around six years that he’d had the beard he just sheared off.
Momoa may think he looks better with a beard, but his fans have been reassuring him they ‘love the change’ and that the actor ‘looks great either way’.

Speaking as a fellow bearer of a beard, shaving it off for the first time in years leaves you with a stranger staring back at you in the mirror, and the sight can be somewhat jarring.
Some fans pointed out that the movie star had as close to a ‘baby face’ as he was going to get having shed the beard, while others have reassured him that it’ll ‘grow back’ soon enough.
One fan of the change his Momoa’s girlfriend Adria Arjona, who starred in the critically acclaimed Star Wars series Andor.
She commented a trio of love hearts on his post, so it seems like she appreciates Momoa whether he’s got a beard or not.
